Quick Ideas To Brighten Up Your Home With Skylights

Windows are important in any home since they serve an aesthetic purpose as well as a functional one. When designing your home, you can allocate for as many windows as your design can allow. They bring natural light to your home. They also improve the serenity of your home by enabling a piece of the outside to be seen from inside. They also save you a lot of energy costs since they help in weather regulation.

The new home décor frenzy that has taken the world by storm is installing skylights. They bring a whole new feel to your home. They improve your lighting as well as ventilation. They help you to cut down energy costs while they bring a sophisticated ambience to your home. With some strategically placed skylights, you can be having dinner, bath or a good family time while watching the stars above your house.

If you do not already have skylights in your home, you can consult with your home décor professional who can advise you on where to install them best. It is not a major construction, but it gives your home a whole modern look. Here are some ideas that you can consider.

Install skylights to brighten your bathroom

If you have a dark bathroom whose only source of light is a small jack window, then you can add a skylight above the shower. This will open up your bathroom while upholding your privacy. You can even have a vented skylight so that you can enjoy a breeze when you take a shower during hot days. This not only opens up your bathroom towards the sky, it also removes the dark spots that make it look smaller.

Use skylights to accentuate vaulted ceilings

Your home could be having architectural features such as vaulted ceilings that nobody seems to notice. You can spruce them up by installing a series of skylights. These will beautifully illuminate the room hence drawing attention to the ceiling. You can even install them in a way that they will reduce the glare in the room at particular hours.

Install stairwell skylights

You may have a masterpiece of a stairwell but if it is surrounded by a dark shadow, it does no good to your home ambience. Normally, stairwells require a lot of artificial lightings to reduce accidents and enhance safety. You can install a skylight above them to supplement these lights with natural light. It will also expose the grand features on your stairwells such as beautiful rails and other details.

Include exterior skylights as well

If you want to be able to enjoy the outdoors in any weather, then installing exterior skylights is good for you. Get one for your patio roof as well as your sunroom. It will help in making the patio and sunroom feel more like the real outdoors. Consider installing an exterior skylight in the roof of your indoor pool as well. It creates a real feeling of open space that is good for relaxation. You can even have one in your attic bedroom to improve lighting and ventilation. If you have a high pitched roof, installing a skylight in the attic upgrades the attic from a dark, musky room to a well-aerated illuminated room.
