Why Hire a Professional for Skylight Installation

Think you could complete the skylight installation on your own? Well, let this article break it to you that it’s a very bad idea; because, a skylight installation is more than just cutting a hole in the ceiling or wall and nailing the joints before sealing them. Such mechanical stuff is indeed important and unavoidable, but there is a lot more work to be done before a skylight installation. The two major jobs are calculating the exact positioning of incident sunrays over the roof and building a skylight shaft. Both these can be done by a professional and licensed installer alone, not by any individual. Placement of a skylight on the roof is important to make sure that the interiors receive maximum sunlight, which is exactly the point of installing a skylight in the first place. On the other hand, some might want it to enjoy the view of the sky on cloudless nights. After deciding the place to install the skylight, there is a lot of structural work involved in the construction of the skylight shafts. Even the roof will have to be altered to make the light tunnel. All this work is not possible if you are an amateur, hence it is better to hire an expert for skylight installation.

Another factor, which must be kept at mind, is the pitch of the roof. Some skylights may not be suitable for low pitch roofs and they are not suggested for installation. To measure the pitch of the roof, it is better to hire a qualified installer. There are three types of flat skylight roofs available in the market, which are quite famous.
