Skylight flashing is designed to ensure that rainwater does not find its way into your house. Since skylights are often associated with condensation and leaking, flashing is the only way that such are avoided. Though not mainly restricted to snowy and rainy climates, flashing is of absolute importance when the two are in season as it prevents great damage to both the window and roof. Worth noting however is the fact that with modernly designed roofs, there is need for custom flashing since the mode of construction is very different. The flashing requires that adhesive is used in ensuring water tight conditions.
Do not ever be duped to believing that there is anything such as universal skylight flashing since the type of roof, climate and skylight model are some of the determinants. Metal roofs require specific types of flashing as there has to be an interlocking mechanism between the two. There also has to be streamlining of the interior besides provision of a watertight environment. Flashing material can very well be installed on following of some laid down procedures. Complications may however arise when it comes to dealing with types of roofing such as asphalt. The amount of adhesive to be used and any other material that is supposed to strengthen the flash should be carefully applied.
