Leaks in Your Roof Windows? Here Is How You Can Check It

The common issues with roof windows and skylights are related to weather conditions. For those who already have roof windows, leakage during the rainy season can be very troublesome. This could occur despite annual maintenance and repairs. Leaking roof windows can damage your home by ruining the walls and the paint. Instead of paying a heavy price for these damages, you need to take immediate control of the leaks. The first thing to do is to check if it is actually a leak. Often people mistake droplets formed due to condensation for leakage. If that is not the case, you will have to check the flashing, which is a metal attachment found around the edges of the skylight to drain water. The drainage system may not work correctly if there is any blockage due to debris or dust. Additionally, you must also check the glass and frame for cracks and holes. It is possible to seal off small holes or cracks with cement or a commercial sealant. In case you have a dome type roof window, you will have to replace the dome in case of a crack. These are simple measures that you can take to prevent the condition from becoming worse. It is always better to consult a professional to ensure that the problem is solved completely.
