Simple Steps to Repair Your Skylight

The end of the summer season signals several aspects that you must take care of in order to prevent unnecessary events from happening later. Checking for gaps between doors, between doors to walls, around pipes, heating unit, roof skylights is very important. Roof skylight can be the cause for several leaks. Therefore, examine the skylight closely to determine any holes. Make sure that the curb or the area around the skylight is gap-free. If this not done, then you not face a problem of leakage in the rainy season but also a colder winter as the gap expands in winter season if there is any water present in the gaps. Read on to know how to repair or replace the roof skylight that gives way to leaks. A simple repair in time can help avoid a replacement. Simply check the rubber seal around the skylight, curb and the flashing. Do remember all the areas that have gaps, or better mark the gaps with a chalk as and when you see them. Take special note of nails as they many of them would be exposed. Nail them down as they may cause leaks in rainy season by coming out. Ensure nails are covered by the flashing material. Patch the gaps with a sealant and apply a liquid roof coating to the area around the roof skylight.
