Skylight Benefits - Beyond Lighting

As skylights provide about 30% more light than common windows, even small rooms with less wall space are illuminated with natural light by them. Skylights with clear glass direct sunlight to a spot, while acrylic or obscure glass spread it across a large area. But the benefits of skylights aren’t limited to the excellent lighting options they provide. While fixed skylights only provide light, other models can be opened or closed by a remote control, wall switch or even a temperature sensor. Thus, operated skylights also serve the purpose of air conditioning in your room. Modern skylights come with low-emissivity and tinted coatings to control both heat and UV ray transmission. Special blinds for skylights are also available. In winter, the skylight allows the sun’s heat to radiate within your room. In summer, the ventilating skylight releases warm air and adds to air circulation, making your room feel cooler. Thus, skylights save your electricity bills by minimizing your need for ventilation, lighting and air conditioning. A tubular skylight, in particular, provides a combination of a reflective shaft and a diffuser to spread light, thus allowing in great amounts of light and minimizing heat transfer effectively, both for its limited size. Toronto skylight retailers let you know the best skylight for every room in your home, and even provide information about the various styles, features and sizes available. Ask your retailer all your questions, and they’ll be pleased to answer.
