“Whether to repair or replace” - when it comes to
skylights, this is one question that often boggles people’s mind. It is not always easy to determine whether to repair or go for skylight replacement, and there is a thumb rule that can rescue people from the horns of the dilemma. It is important to understand that situations are different for a skylight repair and replacement, and one has to consider the symptoms and needs first, in order to arrive at a decision – replacement or repair.
In many situations, repairing a skylight is considered to be a smart choice, especially when the roof system or the skylight is relatively new, only 5 years old or even less, and leaks occasionally. In such a scenario, only nominal repair services can be sufficient. However, if the skylight ages between 5-10 years, and leaks persistently and heavily, it is time that you should go for a full repair service.
For the roofing system which is 12-15 years old, skylight replacement is the wisest choice. With growing age, the insulation capability and UV resistance of the skyline diminishes, and it is better to replace before worse happens. However, for a tight budget, often repair is considered more effective than replacement.
