Skylights can work wonders for the lighting and ventilation in your room. It is a known fact that skylights allow more than 35 per cent light into your space when compared to the regular vertical windows. Installing a skylight can be a little expensive initially. However, considering its benefits, the investment is definitely worth it. There are many self installation kits available to help you install a skylight without any additional labor costs.
The first thing you need to figure out is the place where you want to
install the skylight. Once you have chosen the spot, measure the approximate size of your skylight and mark the outline with a chalk. Remember, you will have to drill a hole into your roof to install a skylight. This has to be done very precisely to make sure that you do not have issues like leaks in the future. The next step is to install the frame. This has to be at least three inches in thickness in order to provide ample support. You need to create an opening in the ceiling below the hole in the roof. This is completed with the installation of a frame in the ceiling joists. The last component is the light shaft that connects the two openings. This needs to be sealed completely to secure the skylight and prevent weather related issues.
