Easy Skylight Installation Tips
Skylights are windows on the roof that are meant for increasing the amount of light that falls in a room. They can be constructed when building the house or installed after the house has been constructed. If you need to install skylights there are guides that can help you through the procedure. These include;
You need to get the right materials like sky light of the right size, drywall, supplies for furnishing the ceiling, rolling paper, roofing nails, galvanized nails, step flashing and continuous flashing. The tools you will need include circular saw, hammer, flat pry bar, tin snips and utility knife.
Drawing and framing the opening on your roof using a saw, drill the locator hole from inside at the place you want the center of the skylight to be. Use a knife to cut a straightedge on the roof shingles about three inches from all sides. Attach the skylight in the right place on the roof using nails or screws. Cut the strips of roof paper about 8 inches wide and slip them under the shingles using a flat pry bar with care.
Install the bottom flashing using a single wrap around the skylight until it sits on top of the roof shingles. Fix the flashing pieces on all sides of the skylight to hold it in place. They also reduce the chances of water getting through the edges of the skylight.
